Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign the former Real Madrid striker – who is currently on loan with AC Milan – on a six-month loan deal. It’s understood the west Londoners will contemplate making the deal a permanent one in the summer depending on how well the 31-year-old performs. Juventus are expected to announce Higuain’s loan move to Stamford Bridge later today. And according to The Guardian, Higuain will fly to London to undergo a medical with the Blues shortly after the announcement is made. Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso hinted that an announcement on Higuain’s future could be made today last night, saying: “I’ve got a burning inside me, we have 25 players, so let’s not talk about this now We lick our wounds and will see what happens tomorrow. Higuain was asked about his proposed move on Wednesday night after AC Milan’s Suppercoppa Italiana match with Juventus – which they lost 1-0 – but refused to be drawn on the matter. Were you all waiting for me?” he asked reporters. “If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense. Should Higuain pass a medical and agree personal terms with Chelsea, he will be reunited with Maurizio Sarri, who managed him for one season at Napoli. The Argentina international enjoyed the most prolific season of his career under the Italian, scoring 38 goals in 42 appearances for the Gli Azzurri. Higuain’s arrival at Stamford Bridge will pave the way for Alvaro Morata to end his nightmare stay in west London. Morata has endured a torrid time with Chelsea over the last twelve months and has recently found himself playing second fiddle to Eden Hazard. Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing the Spaniard, who has reportedly told Chelsea he wants to leave the club. Diego Simeone was asked about the club’s alleged pursuit of the 26-year-old earlier this week but refused to reveal if the La Liga giants are interested in signing the Spain international. The only thing I’m thinking about is the upcoming match against Levante,” Simeone told reporters. I don’t speak about players that aren’t with us, only those that are. “I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do. Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, some could arrive. We need to wait until January 31.” Should Chelsea sign Higuain before 12pm on Friday, they’ll be able to include him in their squad for Saturday’s match against Arsenal. The Blues go into the match six points clear of the fifth-placed Gunners, who will be looking to keep their slim hopes of finishing in fourth place alive with a win at the Emirates.
