Bennett signs one-year deal with receiver-needy Ravens after tryout

Veteran wide receiver Drew Bennett signed with the Baltimore Ravens, who are looking for help at the position after Derrick Mason surprisingly announced last week that he was retiring from the NFL.

Bennett, an eight-year veteran, beat out D.J. Hackett, Chris Hannon and Justin Brown in a Friday tryout at the Ravens’ facility in Owings Mills, Md. Bennett then passed a physical and signed a one-year contract.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Its good to be able at this time of year to pick up a player who has been very productive in the league, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told the team’s Web site. He has been very competitive against us. We obviously liked his workout today. … We wanted to make sure he was healthy and that he still had the things weve seen against us and on film.
Bennett had his most productive season with the Tennessee Titans in 2004, when he caught 80 passes for 1,247 yards and 11 touchdowns — all career highs. He followed that with seasons of 58 and 46 receptions, then left the Titans in 2007 to sign a six-year, $30 million contract with the St. Louis Rams. However, Bennett made just 33 catches for 375 yards and three touchdowns in his first Rams season, and he played in just one game for St. Louis in 2008 because of a broken foot. The Rams released Bennett in February.
Bennett, who also visited the Titans this offseason, told the Ravens’ Web site that he believes his foot injury has healed.
“It took a lot longer than I thought it would,” Bennett said. “I thought it would only be six to eight weeks, but it was bothering me all the way up until February.”
Bennett joins Mark Clayton, Kelley Washington and Demetrius Williams as the only wide receivers with significant NFL experience on Baltimore’s roster. However, the Ravens are hoping that Mason reconsiders his retirement, and coach John Harbaugh recently met with the receiver to discuss the situation.
Mason, a 12-year veteran, led the Ravens last season with 80 receptions for 1,037 yards and five touchdowns.

Ravens have plenty of cap room now that Suggs is signed…but neither Denver or Phoenix are going to trade their guys so please stop dreaming folks.

Boldin wants money, even if they could pull off a trade they dont have enough cap room to give Boldin what he wants so he’ll be in the same situation he’s in in Arz.

what the ffuck are the ravens trying to take all the titans old recivers i mean sh!t.if you want a list of all are wide outs just ask.You took d mason from us now drew come on.but drew after he left us really got lost with the rams injuries lack of playing time he doesnt have the top in speed he use to,he’s not a long or really a good short term answer for the rams,i dont know why’d they take one work out over all the years he spent with the rams an was a non factor.hope Mason retires but he always will be remembered as a titan to bad he couldnt retire as one.
